Minister Davitashvili: “Excess harvest and accommodation of grapes features one of the biggest challenges for Georgian agriculture in 2020”

More than 280 thousand tonnes of grapes have been fully accommodated through deploying effective state strategy. Winemakers have sold up to 25 thousand tonnes of grapes and have accumulated nearly 310 million GEL as an income.

The Government of Georgia-adopted decisions have ensured subsidizing the harvest of 2020, which empowered thousands of winemakers to sell a kg of Rkatsiteli for 0,8 GEL; frankly speaking, absence of subsidies would have resulted into winemakers earning 0,5 GEL per kg of Rkatsiteli, which would fail to compensate production costs itself. The State-subsidized efforts of grapes have amounted to 51 million GEL.

Moreover, the State enterprises have purchased a large amount of grapes, which has not been realized by the private entities. A total worth of 83 million GEL of grapes have been obtained, complementing immense support to nearly 10 thousand farmers, who would have faced challenges in realizing 94,000 tonnes of grapes.

The State-deployed assistance strategies have successfully transformed 30-years milestone of harvesting and accommodating more than 280 thousand tonnes of grapes. Winemakers have sold up to 25 thousand tonnes of grapes and have accumulated nearly 310 million GEL as an income.
