Levan Davitashvili: “In four-years-time, our reforms aspire to cultivate European standards in environmental liability, water resources management, protection of biological diversity and regulation of enterprises”

A candidate for Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili briefed MPs at the Parliament on upcoming plans of the Ministry. Apart from stressing on the recently deployed environmental activities, Mr Davitashvili touched upon systematic approaches toward legislative amendments, expansion of protected areas, comprehensive forestry reform, waste management, tackling climate change, environmental oversight and control, as well as steps made forward toward decreasing air pollution.

“Throughout upcoming years, the Ministry will dwell on meaningful application of environmental policy: harmonization of environmental standards with the European requirements; deployment of international environmental standards at enterprises and increasing their liabilities – up to 200 enterprises have been imposed with the latest environmental regulations, including equipping with self-monitoring and filtering air emissions systems, which will complement elimination efforts re negative impact of enterprises on environment. In four-years-time, our reforms aspire to cultivate environmental liability, water resources management, protection of biological diversity and European requirements on regulating enterprises. Our environmental policy aspires to ensure sustainable and balanced development of the country, safeguard Georgia from damaging the environment and enhance environmental state, which will transform long-term actions into a safer future for our next generations” – Mr Davitashvili stated.
