70, 7 million USD worth of hazelnut exported from Georgia by December 27

Georgia continues successful efforts for exporting hazelnut, which has already amounted into 70, 7 million USD (13, 8 tonnes) during the period of August 1 – December 27, 2020. The export of the same period of 2019 has boosted in 4, 0 tonnes (41 %), amounting an increase of 21, 5 million USD (44 %).


The vast majority of Georgian hazelnut export has reached European Union market, mainly Germany (3, 694 tonnes), Italy (3, 368 tonnes), Czech Republic (660 tonnes), Lithuania (379 tonnes), Poland (354 tonnes), Spain (408 tonnes), Bulgaria (322 tonnes),  France (274 tonnes), Latvia (106 tonnes), Greece (97 tonnes), Estonia (88 tonnes), Luxembourg (84 tonnes), Slovakia (74 tonnes), Belgium (44 tonnes), Austria (22 tonnes) and Croatia (10 tonnes).  


Nevertheless, Georgian hazelnut has been exported to countries such as Armenia (807 tonnes),  the Russian Federation (627 tonnes), Turkey (530 tonnes),  Belarus (404 tonnes), Ukraine (240 tonnes), Brazil (186 tonnes),  Algeria (185 tonnes), Canada (146 tonnes), Saudi Arabia (145 tonnes), Mexico (67 tonnes),  Uzbekistan (58 tonnes), Syria (50 tonnes), Switzerland (47 tonnes), United Arab Emirates (44 tonnes), Jordan (38 tonnes), Great Britain (35 tonnes), Iraq (24 tonnes), United Stated (19 tonnes) and etc.


Large-scale efforts and the State-deployed strategy, services and dedication of farmers have resulted into tangible outcome of fighting stink bug and embracing high-quality harvest of 2020. Spread of the sting bug and fungal diseases had gradually dropped hazelnut production and export, which reached minimal scale of 17 tonnes in 2018.
