The Ministry encourages the population to adhere to safety rules against fire eruption

Amidst the possibilities of fire eruption in West Georgia, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) encourages the dwellers to adhere to the safety procedures. As an aftermath of climate change, precipitation has decreased, soil and green cover have dried, thus provoking eruption and spread of fire.

Burning agricultural waste can affect windbreaks, forests and any infrastructure nearby; the latter may also result into soil degradation, decrease of soil fertility and eventually lead to soil degradation.

The MEPA extends gratitude to the Emergency Management Agency team under the Ministry of Internal Affairs for 24-hours of dedication and service aiming at extinguishing fire. Meanwhile, the Ministry is grateful for dedication of the National Forestry Agency’s forest specialists and rangers upon their contribution to the joint efforts.

The Forest Fund of Georgia has identified 13 cases of fire throughout January 1 – 8; the National Forestry Agency covers a territory of 200 ha within the latter fund. At this stage, there are several hot spots, however, due to soil difficulties – accurate information will become available after complete eradication of a fire.
