Deputy Minister Khanishvili: “An effective deployment of State efforts against the marmorated stink bug will span over 2021”

The first Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), Mr Giorgi Khanishvili hosted meetings in Samegrelo and Guria with the State Attorneys and representatives of the local municipalities. The State-deployed programs and action plans against the marmorated stink bug have been discussed at the meeting, which enjoyed presence of Mr Zurab Chekurashvili, Head of the National Food Agency.

Deputy Minister Khanishvili embraced agricultural production in these regions, reviewed an incumbent process and emphasized those programs, which have been deployed by the State for enhancing agricultural progress. Deputy Minister stressed out tangible outcome of the State-commenced consistent efforts against marmorated stink bug. 

“The State will proceed with being proactive in tackling marmorated stink bug to safeguard agricultural-rural plantations from physical and economic damage. I would like to emphasize and embrace how vital coordination and meaningful engagement of local municipalities are. The pandemic has once again shed light to how vital cultivation of modern technologies are for collecting harvest, enhancing agriculture and boosting harvest” – Deputy Minister Khanishvili stated. 

For an effective management of efforts against the marmorated stink bug – the National Food Agency has launched preparatory works in the Western Georgia, aiming monitoring locations where the bug spends winter. The monitoring efforts will translate into an oversight actions for fighting the bug.
