Minister Davitashvili: “Upcoming year will boost higher quality and value fish and aquaculture production”

In his speech at the Parliament of Georgia, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili highlighted importance of adopting the Law of Georgia for Fisheries and Aquaculture, through close cooperation with the previous Parliament – “Drafting aquaculture sphere oversight legislation is vital for developing the fishery and fishery industry in general. We have made a significant progress in terms of fishery at the Black Sea, which has been translated into developing new infrastructure, processing; nevertheless, the recent actions are part to the chain reaction, which will ensure development of aquaculture and maricultural production.

Effective legislation is the only capacity for developing the respective sphere. The State deploys financial, grant assistance, co-funding and technical support toward ensuring sustainability of the corresponding industries.

The new legislation has been enacted in January of an incumbent year; the relevant department has been set up to draft bylaws and elaborate those regulations, which will perfect the legislation and empower business to effectively deploy investments. An interest professed is quite significant. Meanwhile, there will be complementary and significant initiatives, such as laboratory research and technical assistance. We have fallen behind bio-veterinary actions, therefore – we are striving together with the European partners and stakeholders, thus, 2021 will be transformative for undertaking aquaculture project. As a result, will achieve high-quality and value fish and aquaculture products” – Minister Levan Davitashvili stated.
