Minister Davitashvili: “We will provide the Government with a model of wheat yield subsidizing efforts for an extended period of three months”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili hosted a meeting with wheat and bread producers and importers. “We will provide the Government with a model of wheat yield subsidizing efforts for an extended period of three months” – Minister Davitashvili stated. The Government shall make a decision on extending wheat yield subsidizing in the nearest future. 

“Amidst the pandemic, sustaining prices on primary bread products is vital. Therefore, upon reaching an agreement with wheat yield and bread producers and importers, we will provide the government with a request to extend an incumbent subsidizing model for three more months” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 

In the course of the meeting, bread producers stressed out that cooperation between business sector and State-deployed policies – has been translated into highest quality and cheapest bread products in the region. However, attendees also stated that it will be difficult to attain an incumbent pricing policy in a long run. 

In Georgia, 500 gr. bread produced of white wheat costs 0, 34 USD, while producer countries such as Russia and Ukraine – the price stands at 0, 48 and 0, 51 USDs. As for prices in other countries – 0, 46 USD in Armenia and 0, 35 USD in Turkey.
