Contest of ideas “GreeNovation”

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world at various arenas, including Georgia. Therefore, supporting “green recovery” initiatives are crucial for further enhancement. The contest “GreeNovation” will aim at undertaking activities within the “Management of natural resources and safeguarding of ecosystem services for sustainable rural development in the South Caucasus” (ECOserve) program, which is implemented in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The program ECOserve was launched in 2018 and is part to an extended support area of the Federal Republic of Germany, which entails priority areas such as environmental policy, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in South Caucasus. The program also aims at enhancing sustainable management of natural resources and preconditions to friendly use of biodiversity. In Georgia – the core focus targets implementation of forestry sector reform and enhancement of energy-effectiveness. 

Within the ECOserve, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) undertake a joint initiative on March 29 through launching a project of ideas “GreeNovation” (Green Innovation Challenge), which aims at identifying key challenges and innovations as well as eco-friendly solutions toward enhancement of forestry sector. The ECOserve aspires to emphasize on core focus of environmental matters; more specifically on areas such as environmental education and public awareness, forest and forest resources, ecotourism as well as other programming.
