Switzerland to support environmental protection and agriculture programming in Georgia

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), Mr Levan Davitashvili met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation Patrick Francen and embraced multiyear fruitful cooperation between the MEPA and the Swiss Cooperation Office in Georgi. Parties to the meeting discussed possible areas of cooperation.

In the course of the discussions, attendees scrutinized new program to be adopted in July 2021, which will span across 2022 – 2025 with a budget of 10 million USD. The new program entails inclusive and sustainable economic development efforts, international training programs for farmers, livestock sector assistance, bio-production enhancement, environmental matters; it will also focus on forestry sector reform enhancement, as well as cooperation on climate changes. 

The meeting was attended by Ms Danielle Meuwly, Regional Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus, Mr Lasha Inauri, head of the International Relations and European Integration Department of MEPA and Mr Beka Tagauri, head of Swiss Economic Development Program in Georgia.Â
