Coordination Council on Plant Protection Sector Enhancement

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), hosted the fifth consecutive meeting of the coordination council on plant protection sector enhancement.  The meeting was moderated by the first Deputy Minister of MEPA, Mr Giorgi Khanishvili who also chairs the respective council. In his opening remarks, Mr Khanishvili discussed how the pandemic affected the country and also briefed on priorities and upcoming plans; he made emphasis on the importance of projecting risks related to plant protection matters.

In the course of the meeting, representatives of National Food Agency, Laboratory, Scientific-Research Center presented phytosanitary development strategy, incumbent and future activities. They touched upon phytosanitary oversight matters during the pandemic at the customs units. Within the framework of the coordination council, a special unit will be deployed on risk analyses and short-term study programs, which will be planned and implemented comprehensively and effectively. 

The meeting enjoyed presence of MEPA’s relevant agencies, Ministry of Agriculture of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, donor organizations and NGOs. Due to the pandemic, the meeting took place remotely.Â
