MEPA hosts a meeting with Riina Kaljurand, Ambassador of Estonia to Georgia

Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), Ms Nino Tandilashvili and Mr Iuri Nozadze met with H.E. Riina Kaljurand, Ambassador of Estonia to Georgia. In the course of the meeting, attendees discussed details and future cooperation prospects of the “Timbeter - strengthening the sustainable forestry practices in Georgia” project, which is an innovative approach to measurement technology of timber. 


“The new Forest Code has been enacted on January 1, 2021, which has set forth new approaches and regulations. Meanwhile, it is of utmost importance to cultivate and enhance innovative technologies, therefore, expertise of Estonia in this regard is highly important for us. We are delighted to launch a new project and we would like to demonstrate our readiness for supporting stakeholder organizations to successfully deliver planned activities” – Deputy Minister Tandilashvili stated. 
In the course of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nozadze thanked the Government of Estonia for cooperation and demonstrated willingness to continue active cooperation in the future. 


Ambassador Kaljurand demonstrated willingness of Estonia to enhance cooperation and support to Georgia for successful implementation of reforms and sustainable environmental protection processes. 


The “Timbeter - strengthening the sustainable forestry practices in Georgia” project is funded by the Estonian Government and introduces and uses modern technologies in the forestry sector. In frames of the project, the company “Timber” together with “Green Advisor” will elaborate an internet application for improving timber movement and volume accountability upon cultivating AI-based technologies. 


The project will support improving timber movement and volume accountability, as well as well as to assist forest management and supervision bodies in conducting effective state control over forest use and forest protection. At the meeting, attendees discussed AI-based timber movement and volume accountability technologies. 


The meeting enjoyed attendance of the MEPA’s relevant agencies, as well as representatives of the Estonian Embassy.
