Minister Davitashvili: “Grant assistance and 90% co-funding are deployed for recovering-rehabilitating tea plantations”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili enjoyed company of the State Trustee of the Guria Region, Mr Giorgi Sakhokia upon paying a visit to the State program-supported rehabilitated tea plantation. 

“From 2016, the State has launched meaningful efforts for drastic enhancement of tea industry. We deploy grant assistance and 90 % co-funding for abandoned and destroyed plantations, which are recovered and restored. LTD “Laituri – tea export company” is a great example of a one of the most esteemed industries who cultivate production” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 

Minister discussed agrotourism potential of the Georgia tea and emphasized on Georgia being one of the countries, which produces tea and can be enhanced through agrotourism; Guria region has already launched a project “Tea Road”, which aims at an organized management of tourism groups. 

The LTD “Laituri – tea export company”, through tea plantations’ rehabilitation program “Georgian Wine” has ensured restoration of 25 hectares of tea plantations. A total amount of the rehabilitation efforts has comprised 61, 950 GEL, out of which – 43, 000 GEL has been allocated from the Ministry’s budget. 

In Guria region, an organized effort of the tea plantations’ rehabilitation program “Georgian Wine” has covered 203 hectares of tea plantations. Efforts exceed 494, 000 GEL, out of which – 358, 000 GEL has been allocated from the Ministry’s budget.

The rehabilitated tea plantations were observed by the Minister, Guria Region’s Governor, Director of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, Mr Ilia Tamarashvili, Majoritarian MP of the Chokhatauri, Mr Vasil Chigogidze and MP Khatia Tsilosani, the first Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee.
