The Government of Georgia favors anticipated amendments to the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia and to the Law of Georgia on Vines and Wine

The Government of Georgia approves amendments to the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia and to the Law of Georgia on Vines and Wine. 

“The Law of Georgia on Vines and Wine will be supplemented with new products: “drinks of wine”, which are alcoholic drinks produced on wine and with at least 50 % of wine consistency; moreover, the spirit concentration shall be ranged between 3, 5 % - 14, 5 %. Also, “dealcoholized wine”, which is produced through dealcoholizing of wine and spirit concentration ranges between 0, 5 % - 15 %. Labelling of the “drinks of wine” distilled into a realization packaging is crucial. 

The amendments also cover bred, which shall not be less than 36 % of spirit concentration, unlike an incumbent 37 %. 

From January 1, 2023 – all the alcoholic beverages and spirits shall be certified. An obligatory certification will entail protected designation of origin or geographical indication of wine and spirited drinks. As for any other alcoholic drinks – their certification is optional. 

Moreover, amendments to the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia will determine administrative payments. 

The respective amendments are in compliance with the international markets’ demands and European Union’s regulations, as well as for complementing quality of the Georgian wine.
