The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia discusses the Mukhuri forest-park enhancement project

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) has discussed the Mukhuri forest-park enhancement project, which spans across 9000 hectares and entails elaboration of the unified plan, which covers the following actions: multilateral assessment of a unique eco-system of the forest, assigning status, categorization, zoning, determining management modes, projecting, development of eco-friendly tourist infrastructure, long-term management and monitoring efforts. 

“Sustainable management of forests is of utmost importance for our Ministry. Financial assistance of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) has empowered actions for undertaking Mukhuri forest-park development project, which will complement well-being of the local dwellers and enhance social-economic environment” – Deputy Minister of MEPA, Mr Iuri Nozadze stated. 

The project has been undertaken as a joint effort between the National Forest Agency and all the local, regional, national and international stakeholders in the Mukhuri gorge. 

The Mukhuri forest-park development project is implemented by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) and through financial support of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) in frames of the Sustainable Forest Management project. 

The meeting took place at the MEPA and enjoyed presence of the MEPA’s relevant agencies, as well as proxies of the CENN, ADC and expert groups.
