Minister Davitashvili: “Safe food is vital for the reputation of the restaurants and food establishments to win over trust among local and foreign consumers”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili joined an acting Business Ombudsman, Mr Nino Kvenetadze at a discussion of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) systems with regard to public dineries. The discussion was attended by representatives of restaurant sector.

“HACCP is a great capacity for consumers rights’ protection with regard to food production and supply. Cultivation of the latter system can foster competitiveness, trust and reputation. New regulations can never be cultivated easily, therefore, we shall embark on this path together with business, aiming at prompt and harmless results. Despite of the fact that restaurants had sufficient time to deploy the new regulations, however it did coincide with a very difficult period of time. The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the respective sector, nevertheless, the latter sector accurately evaluates an importance of food safety and has readiness to deploy the HACCP system, as well as those regulations which at the end serve their own interests. Safe food is vital for the reputation of the restaurants and food establishments, which wins over trust among local and foreign consumers” – Minister Davitashvili stated.

As it has been mentioned at the meeting by the leaders of the National Food Agency, the Agency has readiness to actively cooperate and greatly complement the restaurant sector.

In accordance with the European Union’s regulations, deployment of the HACCP system at various establishments is underway in a consistent manner. Obligatory deployment of the HACCP system shall be handled in a following manner: from 2015 – raw milk processing enterprises and slaughter houses; from 2018 – producers of processed hazelnut for an export; from January 1, 2021 – animal-origin product producers and/or processing establishments.
