The National Environmental Agency to join forces with the European Union on enhancement of surface and ground waters

The European Union's Water Initiative Plus (EUWI+) project is the Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiative, which aspires to arrange and deploy modern technologies as surface and ground water stations, which will ensure consistent monitoring of the qualitative and quantitative parameters (water level, debit, temperature, solid particles in the water, electricity, hydrogen Ions) and will also provide consistent reporting. An accrued data will ensure detection-identification of changes into the drinking water, which also provides possibilities for making long and short-term hydrological and hydrogeological prognosis.

“The European Union continues supporting the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia upon implementation of the water resources management plan. In frames of the EU-supported project, the National Environmental Agency has been equipped with monitoring stations, which will complement perfection of the underwater oversight. The reform implementation process is one of the most crucial steps forward, which will result into effective and sustainable management of Georgia with regard to both, surface and underwater” – Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Ms Nino Tandilashvili stated.

It shall be embraced that monitoring efforts over the surface and under water monitoring system enhancement will ensure sustainable management of water resources.

In Georgia, the European Union’s Framework has aspired comprehensive system of water, which will be milestone for successful implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, thus fulfillment of the – EU Water Framework Directive and cultivation of the integrated water resources management principles.
