Levan Davitashvili held a visit to Sachkhere Municipality

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili visited family owned dairy business in Sachkhere Municipality, where he got acquainted with the infrastructural works carried out in the trout farm and construction works undertaken in the National Food Agency regional office.

The restoration of the river trout included in the Red List of Georgia is being implemented in village Kvereti, Sachkhere Municipality.  The Minister together with the public school pupils from village Sareki released several hundred species of artificially propagated trout in river Chikhura.

"Promotion of the National Nursery of Environmental Protection and Agriculture plays a vital role in the development of environmentally sound fishery sector. I would like to note, that Mr. Gigla Agulashvili was the Minister, when this project was launched. The restoration of the red spotted trout and returning endangered species to the wild nature is of utmost importance. Today, for the first time, the trout larvae was released into the wild nature, which was preceded by a multitude of important preparatory works "said Levan Davitashvili.

Since 2016, National nursery has begun working on a new project, targeted at propagation of trout species, which are currently included in the "red list" of Georgia. Infrastructural works were carried out in the fish nursery, two ponds and 8 fish farming pools with reinforced concrete were built. Today, 8000 river trouts are artificially hatched. According to the plan half million trout larvae should be released in the river within a year.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze, Director of National Nursery, Revaz Bezhashvili along with the representatives of the local government.
