Minister Davitashvili: “Enhancement of the gastronomic sector is tightly connected with promoting Georgian production and stimulating production”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili met with the representatives of the Gastronomic Association of Georgia, as well as other board members and leading chefs who are part to the renowned and worldwide gastronomic championship “Bocuse d'Or”. 

In the course of the meeting, attendees discussed action plan of 2021-2022 for the “Bocuse d’Or – Georgia” championship and scrutinized the role of the latter event in enhancing food safety and hospitality industry. Minister Davitashvili reiterated that the role of chers and restaurant sector is of utmost importance for promoting geographic indications, places of origin and promoting-showcasing authentic production. 

“The Georgian rural-agricultural production requires promotion, thus, an effective featuring of the latter requires support of chefs in communicating diverse range of regional peculiarities to the consumers. We are actively cooperating with various agencies for complementing development of gastronomic sector, due to close connection of the latter toward efforts of promoting Georgian production stimulus, as well as boosting rural, agricultural wine sectors. Visibility of the Georgian wine elements has already been demonstrated at various countries, which open up new possibilities for realizing wine production. We can firmly assert that culinary is crucial for cultural diplomacy, thus, we shall join our forces to promote and facilitate Georgian production at both, local and international markets, among Georgia’s visitors. I hope that Georgia’s restaurant sector will fastly recover and develop, therefore, an effective cooperation and communication can be keys for promoting Georgian culinary at Georgian and international arenas. Supporting Georgian chefs will result into strengthening and enhancing our ultimate objective” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 

In frames of the meeting, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gastronomic Association of Georgia, which will empower parties to promote Georgia-produced products and raising trust on this regard. Moreover, the memorandum will boost international practice, as well as perfection of legal protection and institutional mechanisms.
