Minister Davitashvili: “We aspire to double territories and harvest of annual and perennial crops in 10 years”

Today, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili presented development strategies of the Ministry through the theme of the “Environmental Protection and Rural Development 2030”. 

“Our goal is double territories and harvest of annual and perennial crops in 10 years. In order to fulfill our ambitious plans, we have to double our efforts, which we have already undertaken during the period of 2012 – 2021; therefore, we will deploy increased financial means, while we enjoy full support from the Prime Minister, Government and Parliament of Georgia, as an effort for boosting allocated capacities” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 

A long-term vision for agricultural development for the next 10 years will aim at stimulus for usage of agricultural-rural lands and development of greenhouse farming, which will boost harvest of annual and perennial crops to 500 thousand hectares. Moreover, 3,7 million tonnes of production will be ensured, mostly for expert purposes; import will be replaced by crops, which entail food production, as well as animal foods. 

At this stage, there are over 300 thousand hectares of annual and perennial crops, which have been cultivated upon the State support. The fruit gardens that are cultivated by the State program “Plant the Future” exceeds 14 thousand hectares.
