Minister Davitashvili: “We have an ambitious plan to maximize our selfsufficieny”

“We spoke about self-sufficiency. There are areas of Georgia’s agriculture, whose export potential shall be maximized at large. Our core product categories and meat production consist of several directions, that are cattle, swine and poultry meat. I am not talking about sheep meat, which is less consumed in Georgia, however Georgia is a successful exporter of sheep and sheep meat.

We have an ambitious plan to maximize our self-sufficiency at large. We will double meat and milk production, while these areas demonstrate a much better situation. Nowadays, Georgia has a dependency on milk products, however, from 2030, Georgia will also become a country which will export meat products.

As we speak about economy and economic data in terms of agricultural direction, we aim at export indicators. Agriculture is a vital part of our common export. Around 1/3 of the export products exported from Georgia falls on agriculture. Our goal is for the agriculture to become NET exporter and we will reach the respective goal in 2-years time. The latter can be explained based on the statistics and trends, which has demonstrated balance of agroproduction sector trade” – Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili stated at the presentation of the “Envrionmental Protection and Rural Development 2030”.
