Levan Davitashvili: " we must use more modern, more sensible technology in the economy to mitigate climate change "

"Climate change remains a major challenge in the 21st century, among many other challenges. Climate change mitigation is the responsibility of each country. Georgia is a party to the Paris Agreement. Our country has already adopted an ambitious nationally defined contribution document, a climate change strategy, and an action plan. EU countries agree, that they have taken maximum responsibility for climate change mitigation.

We have declared, that by 2024 we are going to apply to the EU, therefore, Georgia shares this responsibility, part of which is that by 2030, we must unconditionally reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35%. However, Georgia is ready and working with European partners to join the Green Deal and become a carbon-neutral country. However, we will have a lot of work to do with donors in the respective area.

Ultimately, when we talk about climate change, it implies, that we need to use more modern, more sensible technology in our economy. Taking into consideration seven sectors, the introduction of modern sensible technologies is determined for sustainable economic development and for minimizing the impact on climate change.

"With the development of the forestry sector, we must be able to mitigate climate change through using alternative energies, which is the most important task," said Mr. Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture at the presentation of the long-term vision of the "Environmental Protection and Rural Development 2030".
At the initiative of Prime Minister Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili, within the framework of the ten-year plan of the government, the ministries will present their visions.
