Enhancing natural disasters’ monitoring system

Georgia will embark on the journey to develop an effective system of early warning and monitoring, which will aim at identifying natural geological and hydrometeorological occurrences. For ensuring goals/objectives, Georgia will install automatic meteorological, hydrological and geological stations, which shall increase existing monitoring network; moreover, geological and hydrometeorological threats’ zoning maps will also be drafted, which will safeguard population from threats and will ensure softening/protection of people from possible negative effects.

“Enhancement of environmental affairs is crucial, as we speak about environmental protection. The Ministry has been strengthening environmental protection capacities in a consistent manner. We have installed 27 automatic stations, which ensure complete information and constant monitoring. We will ensure monitoring of water at 200 locations, while soil pollution monitoring will span across around 70 spots. The new meteorological stations and radars will be set forth to obtain precise meteorological information, which is vital for an economic sector, including agriculture and our farmers. We will also increase observation over underground waters. All of these data will be processed for elaborating a better and high-quality policy and management systems.

Nationwide, more than 200 enterprises are cultivating new technologies in order to bring profoud changes toward decreasing effect on water, air and soil. This is our commitment with the European Union, within the Association Agreement” – Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili stated.

“Environmental Protection and Rural Development 2030” is a long-term vision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, presented by the Minister himself, at a greater detail. The event enjoyed presence of Mr Irakli Gharibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, members of the Parliament, representatives of the Government of Georgia, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, State Trustees, Diplomatic missions, international and donor organizations, stakeholder groups and academic institutions, as well as the farmers attended the presentation.

Upon the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr Irakli Gharibashvili, 10-year action plan of the Government will be translated into individual presentations developed by the Ministries; these agencies will present their visions, which will be scrutinized as guidelines for economic stability and strength of the State, throughout the following years.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is the first Government agency, which has presented 10-year development plan of the field.
