Minister Davitashvili discussed development objectives at a greater detail

“We have adopted a law on aquaculture, which serves as an ambitious achievement. Our core objective is to ensure enforcement of the respective law, which will result into full utilization of Georgia’s internal waters. Georgia can solely utilize internal water resources for production of 20, 000 tonnes of fish and marine products; the latter will be a significant contribution toward supplying 70 % of internal demand” – Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili stated at the presentation of long-term vision of the “Environmental and Agrarian Development 2030”. 

The National Environmental Agency under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is adhering to the international standards toward assessment and projections of fishery bioresources at marine and internal reservoir space; moreover, the Agency also ensures inventory of fish resources and determining perspective fish species and water ecosystems; moreover, economic and ecological assessment of fish resources will boost production of seafood potential, expansion of production scale and decreasing dependency of Georgia on seafood products import at a long run. 

Assessment of resources will complement sustainable development of fishing, economic enhancement and employment of local dwellers. Determined amount of fish resources will ensure full operation of fish processing enterprises. 

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is the first state institution, which has set the respective priority within the 10-year plan.
