The balance sheet will be made for land as of December 31, 2023, and will be published by July 1, 2024

The National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring was established on January 1, 2020. Currently, the institutional arrangement is being implemented at the agency.

It should be noted, that land fund information and data haven’t been updated since 2004. The agency is focused on European land management experience and prefers to take a French model, as one of the best and most acceptable. Therefore, the agency established ties with relevant structures in France, who will willingly share their best practices with their Georgian counterparts.

As of December 31, 2023, the balance sheet of land will be made and published by July 1, 2024. At the same time, a unified database on land will be created and the process of registration of agricultural land plots in the public register and their cadastral data will start, including the pasportization of agricultural lands for accounting of information on condition and properties of soils.

In the framework of the state program for an inventory of windbreaks (field protection) strips,
the windbreak strip will be registered and their condition will be studied. Completion of this program is scheduled for 2025. In July 2021, a pilot program will be launched in Telavi Municipality, which includes about 430 hectares.

The Agency has started working on a package of amendments to introduce into the land law (acts), which will improve the implementation of the principles of sustainable land management and, consequently, contribute to the sustainable development of rural and agricultural areas.
