Cherry orchard planted on 204 hectares in Shida Kartli region

Under the framework of the program "Plant the Future", the cherry orchard was planted on 204 hectares in Shida Kartli region. 

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili and the State Representative of Shida Kartli, Valerian Mchedlidze paid a visit to the newly built cherry orchard in the village of Mejvriskhevi, Gori Municipality.

"Plant the Future" program is of strategic importance for the development of fruit growing and it works with great success. Many farmers are engaged in the program and it is becoming more and more popular each year. The farmers are particularly active this year as well; We plan to make more than seven thousand contracts, which is an unprecedentedly high rate. The company "Cherry.ge’’ has planted a modern cherry orchard through using state–of-the-art technologies, embracing local irrigation systems, hail netting structures, concrete poles, all of them have been produced in Georgia over the past few years " Mr. Davitashvili said.

The company ‘’Cherry. ge ’’ planted cherry orchard on 11 hectares through co-financing of the program "Plant the Future". Co-financing of the Rural Development Agency amounted to 112,000 GEL; The company received funding of GEL 18,000 for construction of the well. ‘’Cherry.ge’’ is a beneficiary of the preferential agro-credit project; The loan amount for cultivation of cherry orchard exceeds 1.5 million GEL.

Within the framework of the "Plant the Future" program, a new perennial orchard was planted on more than 12.9 thousand hectares across the country. State co-financing exceeded GEL 81.1 million.
