Walnut growers living near the occupation line are expecting their first harvest

The walnut harvesting starts for the first time in the villages near the occupation line, where walnut orchards were planted under the state program "Plant the Future" .

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili together with Shida Kartli State Representative Valerian Mchedlidze paid a visit to the village of Ptsa in Kareli Municipality, where they visited the walnut orchard planted under the support of the state program.

"We pay regular visits to the regions and we should emphasize, that all of them have a potential for agricultural development, especially Shida Kartli region, which along with Kakheti region is one of the main participants of the program "Plant the Future". It should be mentioned, that the company "Agroptsa" planted a walnut plantation through support of the state program "Plant the Future". The walnut is a popular crop, which has been grown intensively in Georgia in recent years. "Agroptsa" plantation is cultivated nearby the occupation line, unfortunately, an important area of our country is occupied now. 

We will continue implementing state co-financing programs in the coming years as well, and our ambitious goal of exporting fruit trees, which will amount to $ 1 billion will be absolutely realistic in the next ten years" Minister Levan Davitashvili said.


The company Agroptsa" Ltd planted a walnut garden on 15 hectares and set up a walnut crop storage farm through support of the state program "Plant the Future". The Rural Development Agency provides co-financing , which exceeds GEL 79,000. 

Under the co-financing program of agro processing and storage enterprises, the state co-financing exceeds GEL 576,000, while the preferential agro-credit is more than GEL 890,000. 


Under the program "Plant the Future", the walnut orchard was planted on 3,231 hectares across the country, with funding exceeding GEL 15.7 million; Moreover, walnuts were planted on 576 hectares in the Shida Kartli region, where the financing amounted to more than 2.9 million GEL.
