Acceptance – processing of hazelnut harvest is in an active phase

The first Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Giorgi Khanishvili observed acceptance process of hazelnut in the Samegrelo region. Nowadays, acceptance-processing of hazelnut from the farmers is in an active mode.  

“During the recent years, an effective State policy, ongoing projects and programs, investments into processing and storage enterprises have resulted into nationwide enterprises, which are equipped with modern standards and technologies; these commodities assist local farmers in timely accommodation and realization of their harvest. Meanwhile, a complete chain of production will be supported by the State in the future, through assisting areas such as application-enhancement of modern technologies, attaining quality of harvest, as well as promoting Georgian hazelnut at international markets as a brand. These efforts will complement enhancement of Georgian hazelnut’s production” – Deputy Minister Khanishvili stated. 
 
Deputy Minister Khanishvili and Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Zurab Chekurashvili visited a Hazelnut processing enterprise “Nats Eli” at the Senaki municipality to observe the process; the respective enterprise has been equipped with modern appliances, through the preferential agro-credit. A total investment of 1,5 million GEL has been deployed. Annually, the company accepts 4-5 thousand tonnes of hazelnut every year and entails an entire cycle of production, which ensures high quality of hazelnut and also employs 70 locals. 

It shall be noted that Georgia has embraced a large and high-quality harvest of hazelnut, whose price ranges between 3 – 6 million GEL. The vast majority of the processed production is exported.
