Presentation of the European Union funded new project

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili started the presentation of the project "Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade - EU4 Business Initiative". The project is implemented by the International Trade Center (ITC). According to the Minister, this new project is vital to the agricultural development in the country.

" The European Union provides significant assistance to Georgia after signing of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA). It should be noted, that the EU support is primarily focused on improving agricultural sector. Moreover, the European Neighborhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) is successfully implemented in the country, in this sense, the agricultural policy of Georgia is in full compliance with the EU's requirements "- Levan Davitashvili said.

Under the frame of the project "Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade - EU4Business Initiative". the Minister underlined the importance of the technical assistance, sharing of knowledge, experience and improving the legislative environment. The project seeks to improve competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in Eastern Partnership countries and promoting export growth in the international markets, mainly on the EU market.

It should be noted, that in cooperation with the Export Development Association (EDA) the survey was conducted to study small and medium sized agricultural enterprises in Georgia, which revealed the highest export potential of the following products: hazelnut, fruit juice and tea that can be exported to the EU countries.

However, according to the survey, 49% of the companies are already exporting their products to the EU market, while the 37% revealed their readiness as well as willingness in this direction.

The EU Ambassador to Georgia, Janos Herman, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze, also project beneficiaries attended the event.
