Modern cattle breeding farm opens in Dmanisi Municipality

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili visited a recently constructed, modern cattle breeding farm "Sommet de l'Elevage" created through joint Georgian-French investment in the village of Zemo Karabulakh, Dmanisi Municipality.

The farm embraces 300 French, Salers breeds of cattle, which are very beneficial and especially appreciated for their ability to withstand extreme variations in temperature and most importantly, well adapted to the natural conditions of Georgia.

"A company created by Georgian-French investment is a new word in Georgian farming. The investment amounting to 6 million is entirely an agro-credit. The concept of the project considers a well balanced farm with its pasture feed base.

A great deal of capital was invested in clearing the land from stones to improve our pastures and make them more beneficial and useful. If we improve our pastures, they can feed three or four times more heads of cattle. I congratulate the farm managers for constructing a modern, state of the art farm and wish them success in their activities ”said Mr. Khanishvili.

According to Jacques Fleury, the founder of the cattle farm "Sommet de l'Elevage", without the support of the state, the project could not have been implemented.

"To tell you the truth, without the support of the state and agro-credit project, I would refrain from investing in this project, as far as investment process is long and it is very difficult to generate a profit and achieve the desired result. There was an urgent need to improve the performance of the soil and clear it from stones, which is very costly and time consuming. We could not do all these activities without the state agro-credit. The Ministry and FAO provided a  great support. The project is open for any interested persons " said Jacques Fleury.

The modern farm embraces both Georgian and French specialists - veterinarians, nutritionists and technicians.
