Deputy Minister Giorgi Khanishvili attends presentation of the “Improving World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Transparency in Georgia” project

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), Mr Giorgi Khanishvili attended presentation of the “Improving World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Transparency in Georgia” project, which is implemented by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and local interlocutor of the respective institution Rural and Agricultural Policy and Development Institute (RAPDI). 


The core objectives of the project are to enhance food safety, risks’ assessment and management systems, perfection of laboratory research and capacity building of an incumbent potential. 


Deputy Minister Khanishvili stressed out that the respective project is a major step made forward, which will assist Georgia in facing contemporary and global challenges in a successful manner and boost export of the Georgian production. 


Due to the global pandemic and entailing obstacles – activities of the project will be undertaken online and will complement improvement of laboratory research, risks’ assessment and management methodology through deploying education courses on these matters. 


An online meeting was attended by Jin Foster, Head of the Economic Office of the US Embassy in Tbilisi, Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Vasil Basiladze, as well as representatives of the MEPA’s agencies, as well as various international organizations.
