Measures to combat the Asian Stink Bug are being successfully implemented, which resulted into the reduction of damage to crops to the minimum extent possible

Mr. George Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and Mr. Giorgi Surmanidze, Minister of Agriculture of Adjara region discussed current measures taken against the Asian stink bug and summed up the existing results.

 

The pest control activities are successfully undertaken in western Georgia, the damage to crops is significantly reduced, however, during this period, pest is preparing for winter season , therefore, it is crucial to engage local residents in the respective activities and make them use mechanical methods, which are already tested and widely used against the stink bugs.

 

The Head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili along with the representatives of local municipalities attended the working meeting. The participants underlined the importance of active involvement of local authorities and self-governing units in the ongoing process.

 

As part of the combat measures against the Asian stink bugs, the National Food Agency is actively involved in the process with its special equipment. Rural areas are treated by using thermal fogging technology, "Attract and Kill" stations are installed, constant monitoring is undertaken. The treatment against pests is undertaken on 6779 ha of area, 2900 "Attract and Kill" stations and 520 pheromone clamps have been installed in Adjara region.
