First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture got acquainted with the current measures taken against the Asian Stink Bugs in Imereti region

The State Representative Zviad Shalamberidze held a working meeting in Imereti region, where pest control measures were summed up by participants. The meeting was attended by the Head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili and representatives of local municipalities.

The participants noted, that successful efforts were taken by Coordination Management Center against the Asian Stink Bug in Imereti region. They have also mentioned, that  damage to crops was significantly reduced in the regions. The participants underlined the importance of engaging residents in the pest control process and making them use mechanical pest control methods at this time of the year.

This year, within the pest control measures taken against the Asian Stink Bug, cold spraying was used on more than 35 thousand hectares in the villages of western Georgia , including corn fields and shrubs covering  more than 22 thousand hectares and 100 hectares of forest areas in Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti, Guria, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Adjara regions. In total, thermal fogging technology was used on more than 70,000 hectares of area; Ultimately, more than 5,000 pheromone clamps and more than 40,000 "Attract and Kill" stations were installed in western Georgia .
