Minister Levan Davitashvili signed an inter-governmental agreement with the Federal Advisor of the Swiss Confederation

At the meeting hosted by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern, Ms Simonetta Sommaruga, Advisor to the Swiss Confederation and Minister of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili signed an inter-governmental agreement. The respective agreement anticipates enhancement of inter-governmental partnership, which will enable the Georgian counterparts to undertake various priority projects through Swiss financial support and for softening impact of the climate change. 


“For the first time in the history of an Independent Georgia and after multi-year cooperation; an inter-governmental agreement was signed between the two countries, which will enable Georgia to finance efforts for softening climate change. These specific mechanisms will assist in supporting economic development of Georgia, as well as boost contributions made by Georgia and decreasing greenhouse gas emission at a global scale” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 


In the course of the meeting, Ms Simonetta Sommaruga stressed out importance of the agreement, which anticipates specific social and economic assistance to Georgia.


“We are able to demonstrate to the world that the bilateral relations can benefit implementation of the Paris Agreement, as we are capable to cultivate high standards” - Federal Advisor of the Swiss Confederation. 


The meeting hosted at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern was attended by Ms Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Swiss Confederation, H.E. Revaz Lominadze.
