First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the conference

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili took part in the conference, where activities undertaken by Almond and Walnut Producers Association for the years 2018-2021 were summed up. The event brought together almond and walnut growers, as well as representatives of organizations engaged in the agro-industry.

" Agricultural development support programs have been implemented since 2013. Tens of millions of GEL have been invested in the primary production, as well as processing and storage farms. This is just the initial stage, although, in the next 5-6 years, both almonds and walnuts will become very important export products. The state continues to support the development of the sector. Moreover, technical regulations for both almonds and walnuts have already been prepared and will be adopted by the Government of Georgia in the nearest future. The respective regulations will facilitate the fulfillment of all obligations taken under the Association Agreement with Europe, as well as production of export products, which will result into high quality product supply to the domestic market. At the same time, our export products will meet regulatory requirements applied in all European and non-European countries’’ - said Mr. Khanishvili.

In December 2020, the USAID Agriculture Program provided a support to the Almond and Walnut Growers Association, which translated into enhancement of the respective field.

One of the founders of the Almond and Walnut Producers Association, Lasha Jugheli noted, that association established in 2018, currently embraces more than 30 farmers; including, up to 800 manufacturers cooperating with the association.
