Levan Davitashvili: “We have implemented one of the most important projects in the village of Ruisi. More than thousand hectares of agricultural land plots will be irrigated through rehabilitated pumping station "

“Georgian Amelioration” Ltd of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has completed rehabilitation works at the pumping station in the village of Ruisi, Kareli Municipality. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili accompanied by State Representative of Shida Kartli region Valerian Mchedlidze.observed the rehabilitated pumping station.
 
Mr. Davitashvili met with local farmers as well. The farmers noted, that activating irrigation system is essential. Moreover, the problem lasted for 30-years has been solved due to the rehabilitation of Ruisi pumping station, ultimately agricultural land areas, that have not been irrigated for decades are currently supplied with water.

"We have implemented one of the most important projects in the village of Ruisi, where the biggest problem was associated with the irrigation water supply. The seasonal peak in water use occurs in July-August, henceforth, we had a shortage of water supply on two important highways, the Upper Rus and the Tashiskari canals. In fact, we have rebuilt the pumping station, which supplies water to these canals. The total cost of the project is up to 2 million GEL. More than thousand hectares will be irrigated through rehabilitated pumping station.

The respective area is widely-known for its traditional farming practices, including, growing of high value vegetable and fruit crops; Operation of the irrigation system was crucial for local residents and farmers; The Ministry used state budget funds to solve this problem; although, in a more complex way, with the support of the World Bank, we are carrying out a full rehabilitation of the Upper Rus canal in Kareli municipality. A contract has already been signed with the company which will carry out works worth of 21 million, due to which, the problem of irrigation water supply in the villages of Kareli Municipality will be largely solved. The restoration and rehabilitation of infrastructure is one of the most important directions of agricultural development, encompassing irrigation infrastructure, the latter is being implemented in a planned, consistent manner" said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The Ruisi pumping station has been repaired, the penstock has been restored and new pumps have been installed to provide uninterrupted water supply to the Tashiskari and Upper Rus main canals.
 
Consequently, up to 1,000 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated in a stable manner and more than 2,000 beneficiaries will be provided with irrigation water in the villages Ruisi and Urbnisi.

Georgian Amelioration" Ltd started rehabilitation activities in summer, 2020. 1 960 395 GEL was spent from the state budget for the rehabilitation of the pumping station.
