The stamp of the Post of Georgia depicting an endangered Cyprus turpentine tree has been put into circulation under the auspices of contest "Europe 2021"

Georgia’s postage stamp depicting an endangered Cyprus turpentine tree (Pistacia mutica) has been put into circulation under the frame of the contest "Europe 2021".


At the initiative of the ‘’Georgian Post’’ and with the support of the Wildlife Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, 150 seedlings of Cyprus turpentine trees enlisted endangered into the ‘’ IUCN Red List’’ were planted in Krtsanisi Forest Park. Within the event, the presentation of the postage stamp "Europe 2021", as well as photo exhibition organized by National Geographic was held in Krtsanisi Forest Park.


The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Yuri Nozadze attended the event.


" Groves of endangered Cyprus turpentine trees arranged in Krtsanisi Forest Park will play a meaningful role in the preservation of our biodiversity and will make the forest even more attractive to visitors" said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Yuri Nozadze.


Georgia’s new postage stamp for "Europe 2021", which depicts the Cyprus turpentine tree, gazelle, bald eagle enlisted endangered into the ‘’ IUCN Red List’’ has been put into circulation since October, 2021. 


Creating postage stamp with this visual aimed at introducing society with the flora and fauna, as well as endangered species of Georgia.

 

It should be mentioned, that presentation of the postage stamp was organized by the "Georgian Post", which is a company under the authority of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Maire Lod, a representative of ‘’Post Europe’’, visited Georgia specifically to participate in the event.
