The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, participated in the second plenary session of the project " Circular Economy Assessment in Georgia’’

In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed the results of the study and underlined the importance of various sectors of the economy in terms of key macroeconomic indicators and employment rate.


The participants scrutinized a wide range of issues, including, projected results of preliminary assessment of waste, current level of recycling, as well as potential for circularity and a new plan for conducting an additional research .


"We have designed a guideline on circular economy and identified priority areas, that have a high rate of circularity, encompassing agriculture, construction, wholesale and retail trade, tourism and food supply and processing sector. We can already show the business sector where it will be attractive for them to adopt a circular economy model. Similar  meetings contribute to raise public awareness on the importance of the circular economy" Solomon Pavliashvili stated.


During the meeting, Dariusz Edward Prasek, a member of the UN Advisory Board on Circular Economy and an independent international expert made a presentation on the circular economy approaches, international experience and key challenges.
 
The respective project  funded by the Government of Sweden aims to assess the circularity of  economy in Georgia  in close cooperation with the Government of Georgia.


The project anticipates to solve important tasks, namely, assessment of circular economy in Georgia, revealing opportunities in different sectors for adoption the circular economy model, identifying priority areas for circular economy initiatives and developing recommendations for Georgia with regard to circular economy guideline and strategy.


The plenary session was organized by Georgian Society of Natural Explorers "Orchis", in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and financial support of the Swedish Government.


The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia Mr. Ulrik Tidestrom, Head of Development Cooperation and Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia Mr. Erik Illes, and representatives of relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
