Levan Davitashvili: "I would like to express my gratitude to the project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’ for five years of successful cooperation and I would like to convey our appreciation to the US Government and people"

Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Levan Davitashvili, Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia Mrs. Kelly Degnan, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Georgia Mission Director Mr. Peter Wiebler and Tetyana Dudka, Senior Vice President of Chemonics’ International in Europe and Eurasia attended the closing ceremony of the USAID project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’.


"The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is a long-standing partner of Georgia in a number of areas. The project "Zrda Activity in Georgia" was an important supporter of our Ministry. Over the course of 5 years, numerous measures, entailing major financial investments amounting to tens of millions of dollars have been undertaken to support economic empowerment of rural residents. The project team collaborated closely with the private sector, farmers, ethnic minorities, as well as government agencies.


The respective project set focus on the economic needs of the population living along boundary line. It should be mentioned, that implementation of the project was in compliance with the policy of the Ministry. We had close coordination and collaboration with the project team, regarding all stages of the project.


I would like to express my gratitude to the project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’ for five years of successful cooperation and I would like to convey our appreciation to the US Government and people.


Ketevan Chumburidze, Chief of Party, USAID project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’ delivered a detailed presentation on the activities and results of the 5-year project.


Micro, small and medium sized enterprises received revenues amounting to 41, 861 603 USD within the framework of the project "Zrda Activity in Georgia"; 1 241 business entities increased sales with the help of the project and increased their revenue.


The project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’ worked in 81 communities, which resulted into creation of 3 500 jobs, including 1,706 full-time jobs; boosting of incomes of 18,480 households. Furthermore, 5 119 beneficiaries increased their resilience capacity index by 45% regarding livelihood threats and crises. 


The project attracted the investment of 6,196,794 USD from the Government of Georgia and other structures for implementation of infrastructure as well as other projects; 26,070 beneficiaries of the project living in the target regions enjoy upgraded infrastructure.


USAID project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’ aimed at developing micro, small and medium sized enterprises; increasing incomes of rural population; Establishment and development of market linkages between producers and buyers, which, in general, contributed to the economic well being of rural households living in the target regions.


During its operation, the project ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia ‘’ was implemented in 81 communities within six regions of Georgia, the project also included communities living along the administrative boundary line and communities with ethnic minority popula¬tions.
