Georgia and Israel are deepening agricultural cooperation to ensure training programs for young farmers

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel to establish an agricultural demonstration center as a platform, where training courses will be provided for young farmers.

The Memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili and Israeli Consul to Georgia Mr. Smadar Tsemakh-Ratsab.

"The Governments of Israel and Georgia have both long-standing records of cooperation. The memorandum signed today reaffirms the continuation of our bilateral cooperation, which envisages the provision of state-of-the-art agricultural technology and equipment to establish a demonstration hub in Georgia and conduct trainings that will be matched to the priorities and needs of Georgian farmers.

All contributions made for agricultural development are crucial, especially when it comes to knowledge sharing. One of the most important part of the MoC is that specialists will come from Israel and support our farmers in the adoption of modern technologies. The Agricultural Research Center is ready to be actively engaged in the implementation of the project and share its knowledge and experience with all parties "- said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

Modern greenhouse has been built at the demonstration base for annual crops of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in the village of Tsilkani, through funding of the Embassy of Israel, under the frame of the MASHAV program. The demonstration farm will provide young farmers and specialists with hands-on trainings.

The greenhouse is already equipped with ventilation, fertilization and drip irrigation systems, the next stage will be an introduction to hydroponics, which is an innovative, soil-free method for growing plants.
