Levan Davitashvili delivers remarks on Social Policy Initiative: "Government aims to create Jobs and encourage employment, that does not convey to cut budget and save money"

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Levan Davitashvili delivered remarks at the social policy initiative announced by the PM today. The Minister noted, that Government aims to create Jobs and encourage employment, which doesn’t convey to cut budget and save money.

"The Prime Minister announced, that it is crucial to motivate able-bodied citizens, who are fit to work and increase labor force participation to bring more prosperity to their families and not the other way around. It should be noted, that these people were afraid to accept job offers, or find jobs and get involved in the work processes , as they fear they may lose social assistance.

I would like to emphasize, that our goal is not to cut budget and reduce spending, this is not the starting point.

Many questions arose around the new initiative, some of which need to shed some light on it. We would like to clarify some points. We help people to maintain their ‘’unearned income’’ or social assistance payments and at the same time, we give them additional opportunities to earn extra income by doing different, side jobs.

Moreover, these side jobs might be short-term, long-term, seasonal, etc. accordingly, these families will be able to increase their earning on the one hand, and on the other hand, they will acquire some extra professional qualifications and skills. I believe, that people who take the first step to get involved in the work process will also see, that there is an urgent need to improve their skills and that should be a part of the whole process" Mr. Levan Davitashvili said.
The Minister also noted, that the Ministry of Education will be engaged in the respective process, which includes professional, vocational  education as well, namely, some trainings will be provided for people to acquire appropriate, job related skills and qualifications.
