Levan Davitashvili: "We will embrace many new initiatives to improve living conditions of our population "

"Today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, we will have new reforms and will take new initiatives, and exactly for this reason,  Georgian people once again expressed confidence in the Georgian Dream Party last year. The progress must continue. We will have many new initiatives to meet the social needs and interests of our residents, to improve their living conditions and develop our country" the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Levan Davitashvili said in a  live televised address from Rustavi 2.

According to the Minister, during the time of the Georgian Dream Party, universal health care program was launched in the country, henceforth, vulnerable people who could not afford medical treatment received social ‘’guarantees’’, affordable health insurance and an access to health care.

"Moreover, cultivated lands, new agricultural land fields, irrigated lands, reduced trade deficit, increased exports, all of the aforementioned lasted for nine years, and it is a small list, entailing results achieved by the Georgian Dream Government" - said Mr. Levan Davitashvili.

Regarding an increased number of citizens receiving social assistance in recent times, that was mainly resulted from COVID 19 pandemic -was noted by the Vice Prime Minister.

"Poverty pushed by pandemic is a problem faced not only by Georgia. Unfortunately, COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented global phenomenon creating economic and social challenges in many countries. Interventions took place during the pandemic, which entailed provision of some unemployment compensation benefits for people who had lost income, jobs; Consequently, the number of applicants has been increased, accordingly, the number of recipients of social assistance program has been increased as well.
However, we soon started a speedy economic recovery, thus, economic growth is observed in 2021 as well, and this is not due to a decline we faced in 2020; We outperformed growth rate for 2019 and we anticipate the economy to record double-digit growth by the end of the year, which will be one of the most important, direct and objective measurement for economic recovery in the country" - said Levan Davitashvili.
