Levan Davitashvili: "Great number of people receiving social, unemployment benefits avoid to start new jobs "
"Numerous measures has been carried out by our Government to improve social policy, including steps addressing employment issues, specifically, an employment agency has been set up, new approaches have been developed, specific needs of the population have been identified and analyzed.Â
Currently, we embrace more reliable databases, which are thoroughly analyzed through support of the municipalities. All of the aforementioned is a precondition to implement a bolder, more reliable and effective social policy. This is exactly the answer to the question - why we are implementing this program today and not yesterday. All these things need to be prepared" Levan Davitashvili said in a live interview to the Rustavi 2 night program "Courier’’.Â
According to the Minister, great number of people receiving social unemployment benefits avoid to start a job , they believe it could be a temporary or a low-paying job. However, even the lowest paying jobs pay better than social assistance, although our socially vulnerable citizens still believe, that social assistance is more economically stable in the long run and they prefer to maintain their social status, rather than agree to take new jobs.
We made best efforts, which was translated into some improvements in the new policy. The Government team has discussed respective issues over the years. We tried to motivate and encourage socially vulnerable citizens and reduce risks of losing social assistance, therefore, employees had benefited from social assistance programs during a certain period. Although all of the aforementioned was not sufficient and new initiative announced by the Prime Minister today embraces a more progressive vision "Levan Davitashvili said.
