Presentation of the electronic timber resource management system program held in Tbilisi

The importance of introducing an electronic timber management system have been discussed at the meeting held within the project "Strengthening the Sustainable Forestry Practices in Georgia” - Implementation of Timbeter's Innovative Timber Measurement Technology".

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Iuri Nozadze and Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia, Mrs. Riina Kaljurand attended the meeting.

The project was implemented by the Estonian Company "Timbeter", through financial assistance of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and technical support of the Georgian Environmental Organization, ‘’Geo’’.

Under the framework of the project, experimental activities were carried out by representatives of the Ministry, staff of the National Forest Agency and the Department of Environmental Supervision in the log sort yards and state-owned forest area.

"Collecting accurate information about forest and put it in a unified system is essential for us. An Estonian electronic system model for the wood and forest registry will help the forest management and supervision bodies to take an effective oversight” said Mr. Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

"I would like to express my gratitude to Georgian side, especially to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture for its openness and choosing Estonian technologies in the development of Georgian forests. We have made a good start and we are looking forward to a successful cooperation in the future as well’’  Mrs. Riina Kaliorand said.

The representatives of the Embassy of Estonia, the Company "Timbeter", the National Forestry Agency, the Department of Environmental Supervision and the Agency of Protected Areas attended the meeting.
