Levan Davitashvili attended the presentation on the Vineyard Cadastre Program

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Levan Davitashvili attended the presentation, where main results of the Vineyard Cadastre Program were submitted.

It should be mentioned, that event also included the award ceremony of alumni, who graduated from the first, dual vocational education programme in viticulture and winemaking.

In 2014, the National Wine Agency started to create a vineyards cadastre system. On behalf of the German Government, the Agency  has received significant support from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in developing the concept of the cadastral system.

"The vineyard cadastre is an essential element for quality control of Georgian wine and for the development of wine sector in the country. The cadastre includes electronic information on agronomic data for both vine growers and vineyards.  I believe, that creation of a viticulture cadastre is a crucial step taken towards the development of the wine sector, it also contributes to the increase of awareness of Georgian wine  into the international markets. The cadastre will support for full implementation of the legislation, which we have developed in cooperation with Europe and is based on European principles "- said Levan Davitashvili.

The participants emphasized, that successful cooperation established between Germany and Georgia has resulted into creation of a vineyard cadastre program. A number of activities have been taken for implementing the vineyard cadastre program and launching the cadastre system in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions.

The second part of the event was dedicated to the award ceremony of dual vocational education participants. Twenty-five students successfully completed the three-year course. At the graduation ceremony, Mr. Levan Davitashvili noted, that training of professional staff in the wine field is crucial due to the importance of the wine sector.

In 2016, the "Viticulture-Winemaker" professional program was approved and it is one of the first fully dual vocational education programs implemented in Georgia, as 60% of the learning outcomes of the program are achieved (students develop a comprehensive set of practical, as well as theoretical skills) in wine companies. Program modules and learning outcomes are defined according to the requirements of the private sector.

Currently, three vocational colleges in cooperation with the 35 wine companies are implementing the program. Up to 80 young people are engaged in the learning process. Georgian Wine Association supports the implementation and coordination of the vocational program.  Several modern textbooks have been written for the program, namely: "Viticulture", "Winemaking", " Laboratory Analyzes for Wine ", "Food Safety for Wine Cellars" and others.

The Ambassador of Germany to Georgia, Hubert Knirsch, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, representatives of international organizations, public and private sectors attended the meeting.
