Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture highlighted current issues under the cooperation with the French side

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia held a virtual meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Georgia Diego Cola, the Regional Director for Eurasia of the French Development Agency (AFD), Cécile Couprieand and Head of the European Investment Bank Regional Office in the South Caucasus, Machie Chura.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of coopeation, setting main focus on the Zemo Samgori Irrigation System Rehabilitation Project. The Deputy Minister thanked the European Investment Bank for providing consulting services for preparation of the Zemo Samgori Irrigation Project.

 

The conversation touched upon issues of land management, livestock, as well as cooperation in the field of climate change and protection of natural resources.

 

It should be mentioned, that in 2021, the French Development Agency (AFD) allocated a grant of 300,000 euros to strengthen the capacity of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring. AFD supports Georgian side in increasing knowledge on French model of sustainable land management, it also helps to raise awareness on the activities of the French Land Agency "SAFER" and encourages discussion and evaluation upon the introduction of a sustainable land management model in Georgia.
