Levan Davitashvili: "We are keeping our promise to produce more local products in Georgia and export them "

While assessing the growing dynamics of agri-food exports from Georgia, the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Levan Davitashvili noted, that the state has kept its promise and is making real to produce more local products in Georgia and export them.

"In 2021, for the first time, the export of agro-food products from Georgia exceeded USD one million, which is an important export data, that meets our state policy and our efforts to make Georgia a self-sufficient country.

The trade of agro-food products has reached USD 200 million and we have high hopes and expectations , that Georgia will become a net exporter in the next one year and our country will export more than import. Major product groups intended for export are forecast to be a record high. Furthermore, exports of alcoholic beverages of grape origin, entailing wine, spirits..etc, also traditional products, such as mineral water and juices amounted up to USD  400 million.

Exports of canned goods exceed USD 100 million. The value of fresh fruit exports amounted to USD 213 million in 2021, hereby, our forecast is coming true and the export of fresh fruit products from Georgia will likely to increase annually; Hazelnut exports totaled USD 118 million, including, a number of food products, such as meat products, including sheep, live cattle and small scale cattle, and processed products.

Overall, the range has widen, while the quantity and total value of export products have been increased in 2021. Consequently, we can admit, that significant improvements were indicated in respect to all parameters.

It is also noteworthy, that the export of vegetable products from Georgia reached almost  USD 30 million, and this was the category, where Georgia had lost its position and was depended on imports. I believe, that Georgia will maintain its export growth trend " Mr. Levan Davitashvili said.
