Nino Tandilashvili: "Monitoring of enterprises operating in the town of Rustavi will be continued to see how regulations set by the Ministry are being implemented."

Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with Mrs. Maia Bitadze, Chairperson of the Committee of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, at the Parliament of Georgia, and Mrs. Nino Latsabidze, Mayor of Rustavi Municipality paid a visit to the company "Geosteel" metallurgical plant, where they got acquainted with the activities of the enterprise.
 The visit was held within the framework of the monitoring campaign of enterprises operating in the town of Rustavi.

The main goal of the respective campaign is enabling enterprises to fulfill their environmental obligations at the earliest possible time, which means to comply with the requirements established by the Law and the legislation of Georgia in the field of ambient air protection;

"The joint efforts are taken by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Parliament of Georgia and the leadership of the local municipality to continue monitoring of companies and see how regulations set by the Ministry are being implemented.

It should be mentioned, that the company "Geosteel" has improved efficiency of exhaust and aspiration systems, although the respective company hasn’t registered on the air quality continuous online automatic monitoring system yet; Therefore, we will continue to work with the enterprise in this area and will conduct a thorough investigation to study monitoring results, when air quality data is uploaded in the online monitoring system  "- said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

According to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Maia Bitadze, the company "Geosteel" has improved regulatory compliance and self-monitoring system.

"The steps taken by the company" Geosteel "to improve the air monitoring system are really visible, however, the norms of  harmful substances emitted into the ambient air should be specified and there are still challenges faced by the company in the scrap management, which should be solved "- said Mrs. Maia Bitadze. 


According to the Mayor of Rustavi Municipality, similar meetings will be held in all enterprises in the town of Rustavi.

"Enterprises have taken steps to improve the air quality in Rustavi. We have paid a visit to the second company, where we get acquainted with their activities, obligations and their fulfillment status. Monitoring should be continued to improve the ecological situation in the city" Mrs. Nino Latsabidze said.
