Changes in the state agro-insurance program have increased the size of the area, where crop insurance will be available

In accordance with the decision made at the Government session today, under the terms of the state agricultural insurance program, the agricultural land area, which is intended to be insured, will increase from 5  to 10 hectares,  in the case of cereals, from 30 to 50 hectares.

Under the agro-insurance program, the state's share is still 70% for all crops (except vines, as state co-financing for vines is 50%), the insurance policy covers the following insurance risks: hail, flood, hurricane, autumn frost.

It should be noted, that the state agro-insurance program was launched in 2014. One of the necessary conditions for long-term and sustainable agricultural development is the availability of insurance.

Under the state program, from 2014 to December 31, 2021, more than 136 thousand policies have been issued, more than 123 thousand hectares of land are insured, the total insurance premium amounted to GEL 85.5 million, out of which the state co-financing is GEL 57.7 million.
It should be noted, that the co-financing of the GEL 100 insurance premium paid by the state includes 113.8 GEL insurance compensation.
