Mr. Otar Shamugia met with the representatives of the Georgian Farmers’ Associations.

The results achieved through state programs, future plans, as well as changes implemented in the current projects to meet the needs of farmers have been discussed at the meeting.

Representatives of the associations spoke about the needs and challenges related to the development of cereals, berries, laurel, walnuts, bread, olives, honey, fish and eggs, sheep breeding, and beekeeping fields.

"We are ready to take up challenges facing each sector and, together with the associations, we plan ways to deal with the respective challenges, which will contribute to the rapid and effective development of the agricultural sector, ensure food security, and diversify export markets.

" It is important for us, that the state and the private sector continue active communication, particularly to ensure that, each new state program, or initiative is tailored to the needs of the agricultural sector, and changes made in the current programs will help to overcome existing challenges, that will ultimately contribute to the rapid development of the sector" Mr. Otar Shamugia stated.

According to the Minister, much work has been done to increase production and export of local products, statistics in 2021 show, that revenues derived from agricultural exports amounted to USD 1 142 000 000.

However, the Ministry has an ambitious plan to increase that number by more than USD 3 billion by 2030. Obviously, there is still a lot more work to be done to achieve this goal, and the Ministry has effective visions and specific plans in the respective areas, although, more active participation of sectoral associations is crucial to achieving immediate results.

Meetings with the representatives of different associations will start in the near future, where the needs and challenges facing the specific fields of agriculture, also future development plans and initiatives will be discussed in detail.
