Otar Shamugia: there is no shortage of food products and basic consumer goods supplies’’

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia met with the representatives of large trade chains and companies importing food and primary consumer products in Georgia.
It was mentioned, that while maintaining a stable supply of products in the consumer market, it is important for companies to take social responsibility to avoid unreasonable rises in prices.

"In the current situation, the state involvement and support for relevant fields, as well as special responsibility from the business sector is crucial.

We received information about the current situation from importers and representatives of trade networks; I declare with full responsibility that there is no shortage of food supply. At the meeting, we agreed, that we will work in ‘’maximum coordination’’ with the importers and suppliers "- said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

According to the Head of the Georgian Distribution Association, Mr. Iva Chkonia, currently, the market situation is stable, but in recent days, there have been delays in the supply of retail chains, which is associated with excessive buying by the population which artificially leads to shortages.

“Failures related to the delivery of certain brands are caused by the breakdown of the logistics chain, but if today a certain brand of oil, buckwheat or sugar is not on the shelf, it does not mean that it will not be in two or three days, therefore,  I urge the population not to harm themselves and other consumers with excessive or uncontrolled buying of products,” Mr. Chkonia said.
The relevant services of the Ministry are constantly monitoring the uninterrupted supply and replenishment of food products in the country, moreover, coordinated work with the representatives of major retail chains and companies importing food and primary consumer products in Georgia is underway.
